About the Job

Our Canada office is seeking an experienced Process/PC&IS Engineer and Project Manager in Industrial manufacturing facilities and technologies to lead the workflow of process development projects from start to finish, beginning with front-end engineering studies and technology development all the way through design, construction, and start-up. Evaluate, design, develop and plan processes for different industries across the global footprint of Blue Projects

Requirements

Education, Background, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field, like mechanical,  chemical or electrical engineering 
  • 10+ years of experience in the field in a manufacturing or engineering position, preferably in project management, process engineering and/or power & control systems areas
  • Experience defining and developing scope basis, design basis, flow diagrams, P&IDs, layouts, utility requirements, etc
  • Familiar with technologies, processes, and equipment typical to the food, beverage, consumer goods, fine chemical processing, refinery, ethanol, and similar process industries and plants
  • Experience effectively navigating the unique challenges associated with building new facilities from the ground up or refurbishing/adding major capital investment scope to existing brownfield sites/facilities, including demolition when required. 
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with electrical power supply and distribution fundamentals and technical specifications/requirements, including single-line diagrams, power transformation, hardware, and fundamental electrical design 
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with process controls and automation technologies, architecture, systems/platforms, tools, etc. This includes DSC and PLC hardware/software platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Rockwell/AB, Siemens, Delta V, etc)
  • Able to perform basic engineering and sizing calculations for electrical and control systems
  • Experience leading the technical aspects of the entire lifecycle of greenfield and brownfield industrial projects
  • Demonstrate previous experience in effectively navigating the unique technical and engineering challenges associated with building new facilities from the ground up, refurbishing/adding major capital investment scope to existing brownfield sites/facilities, including demolition when required, and developing new or improving/optimizing existing technology/processes/equipment
  • Construction management proficiency and field experience, including start-up, IQ/OQ, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical handover of projects and technology
  • Ability to lead technical and engineering aspects of large-scale and complex projects or programs with multiple interdependent activities and stakeholders
  • Experience managing project budgets, employing cost estimation techniques and financial control measures, tendering and procurement.
  • Able and willing to travel to client and project sites when required, with currently valid credentials to travel to the US and Canada

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and English speaking and writing skills. Second language is desirable, suitable for North American clients.

Responsibilities

Design Management and Process/Packing/PC&IS Technology Development

  • Manage and oversee engineering projects of various sizes and complexity for both new and existing US and Canadian based projects
  • Proficient in mastering new industrial technologies, in applying them to diverse processes and being able to adapt different kinds of technologies to provide an integral manufacturing solution for a business requirement (front end engineering)
  • Define scope basis, develop design basis and specifications, and lead engineering and design processes and teams for industrial projects, including preparing and supporting cost and timing estimates
  • Issue reports and design specifications for machinery and systems
  • Review and provide critical technical input for contract documents and evaluate tenders for equipment purchases, installation and construction services and activities
  • Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of processes, equipment, instrumentation, mechanisms, components, and systems
  • Participate in the design, sizing and selection of process, mechanical, and electrical equipment, pumps, piping, structures, heating & ventilation, and other components and based on service needs and respond to both technical and financial queries related to the project
  • Lead the development of the process, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation requirements of the project phases, including conceptual, preliminary, final, and operational support
  • Coordinate and direct Engineers, Designers, Drafters, and 3D modellers to accomplish project tasks

Greenfield and Brownfield Project Management 

  • Successfully lead the technical aspects (engineering, design, etc.) of the entire lifecycle of greenfield and brownfield industrial projects, including concept development, design management, planning, execution, installation, startup, and completion/handover. 
  • Work with technicians, technologists and other engineers and review and approve design, calculations, and cost estimates.
  • Meet with clients, obtaining field data, interaction with vendors, participating in project meetings, establishing project standards, and assisting in the development of the project design criteria.

Construction Management

  • Provide technical support, oversee and coordinate construction activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, safety, and quality standards. 
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors to drive efficient and successful project execution. 

Big Project/Program Management 

  • Lead technical and engineering aspects of large-scale and complex projects or programs with multiple interdependent activities and stakeholders. 
  • Provide technical support for permitting, licensing, and regulatory requirements for industrial projects.
  • Provide technical input and support for contract management, strategy development, and administration for various scopes from design and engineering to site/facilities construction to equipment sourcing to the installation of equipment, piping, electrical, and mechanical scope to integration and coordination of the various scopes and vendors involved across multiple contracts.  

Financial and Budgetary Control 

  • Develop and support project budgets, cost estimating, tracking and controlling costs throughout the project lifecycle. 
  • Employ effective cost estimation techniques and implement robust financial control measures to achieve financial objectives. 
  • Lead and support tendering and procurement activities and workstreams from an engineering and technical standpoint, including supplier identification, prequalification, tender proposal evaluations, and vendor technical management during the design and execution of projects. 

Senior Stakeholder Management 

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders, including executives, clients, and regulatory authorities. 
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand their requirements, address concerns, and provide regular project updates. 

Team Leadership

  • Lead and motivate a diverse engineering team, including personnel in offices outside North America (Europe, South Africa), fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to team members, ensuring clarity of goals, roles, and responsibilities. 
  • Support professional development and mentorship opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge. 
  • Identify, recruit, and onboard new resources as required in various contractual arrangements, from own to client and contracted resources (individuals and companies). 
  • Project leadership and support for other new potential projects on behalf of the North American business

Salary Range

  • Expected Salary (all locations): 80,000 to 120,000 CAD per year

Work Location

  • Home location within Canada, particularly in British Columbia (preferred to be Vancouver), Ontario (preferred to be Toronto). Willing to consider candidate locations within Alberta (Calgary preferred proximity) or Quebec’s area (Montreal preferred proximity).
  • Alternatively, willing to consider USA locations within easy airport/flight access (less than 2 hrs flight time) to the Chicago, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Nashville or Pittsburgh . 
  • Work and project site locations within USA or Canada (and perhaps elsewhere in the Americas). 
  • Work authorization for Canada is required and travel authorization to travel to USA is a second priority.
