1. What is your name and occupation in the company?

My name is Vanessa Estefania Arroba Lopez. I’m a Project Manager / Technical Engineer.

2. How long have you worked in the company?

I joined Blue Projects in October 2022.

3. What made you choose Blue Projects?

When moving to Canada, I was looking for an opportunity that would allow me to continue advancing in my career. My network led me to Blue Projects. When researching the company, I was impressed by its rapid growth, international footprint and experience and felt aligned with its vision, mission, and values. However, what made me choose Blue Projects was its people. The interview process and first interactions with the team gave me a feeling of familiarity, kindness, and transparency that made me want to work here. 

4. Tell us more about your experience in the industry.

I’m a Biotechnology Engineer by education. I worked for Procter & Gamble from 2018 to 2022 in the Gillette Manufacturing Plant. During that time, I held different roles, including Process Engineer, Line Manager, and Operations Department Manager, in production lines with assembly and injection molding processes.

Since joining Blue Projects in 2022, I have been involved in different projects from diverse industries, either from a business development or a project management perspective. Some projects I’ve been working on include the chemical and food and beverage industries.

5. What were your expectations the first day you started the job vs what are your expectations now?

When making career changes, the recommendation is to change one: role, location, or language. When I moved to Canada, I changed the three. I moved to another country with a unique culture and a different language to work in a new field and role. As scary as it seemed, I was committed to embarking on this new journey.

On my first day, I had mixed feelings. I was nervous but mostly excited. Nervous because it was my first experience working as a service provider; it was my first job in Canada, and my English was not perfect. On the other hand, I was excited about all the barriers, challenges and successes waiting for me.

After these few months, I feel highly motivated and engaged. I expect to continue learning and participating in projects that challenge me and allow me to advance in my career. I’m confident I’m in the right organization and feel fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from the best.

7. How would you describe the company culture?

Agile, innovative, and inclusive. We swiftly respond and adapt to the changing business environment and strive to find solutions, having our clients in mind first and foremost. We like thinking outside the box and applying innovative processes and methods in our projects. We value diversity and enjoy learning from each other’s backgrounds and cultures.

8. What is your definition of inclusion and diversity? What does it mean to you?

For me, driving diversity, equity, and inclusion means breaking down barriers to give people, regardless of gender or ethnicity, the opportunity to fulfil their maximum potential. It is not about feeling a quota to make a good impression on society but about doing the right thing.

9. What is the best thing about working here?

At Blue Projects, I’m always learning something new. Our office has a continuous learning culture; learning is valued and supported by our leaders and peers.
