Blue Projects Joins Solar Foods to Design Factory 02, Scaling Sustainable Protein Made from CO₂

2025-02-18

Blue Projects has been selected by Solar Foods to lead the engineering design for Factory 02, industrial-scale facility producing Solein®, a sustainable protein made from carbon dioxide and electricity. This partnership underscores Blue Projects’ expertise in delivering innovative, sustainable, and cost-efficient solutions for complex industrial projects.

Factory 02 represents a significant leap forward in sustainable food production. Leveraging our Front-End Loading (FEL) expertise, Blue Projects will deliver a comprehensive Advanced Conceptual Design Package, including 3D models, datasheets, and detailed drawings tailored to the project’s unique requirements. This approach ensures a robust foundation for the project, minimizing risks and setting the stage for efficient execution.

“Our partnership with Solar Foods on Factory 02 is a perfect example of how we combine deep technical expertise with a client-driven approach to deliver tailored solutions. We stand with Solar Foods in their mission to revolutionize food production and contribute to a more sustainable future. “ added Umut Demircan.

Factory 02 will incorporate advanced technologies such as carbon capture (DAC) technology to optimize the use of carbon dioxide in production. Hydrogen electrolysis will create a self-sustaining energy system, and wastewater treatment solutions will minimize environmental impact.

“Entering the engineering design phase marks a significant milestone in our journey toward the planning, construction and operation of our increased production capabilities. We have set the ambitious goal of starting operations in 2028 and are fully on schedule. We are developing a cutting-edge facility that aligns with our strategic goals and sets a new standard for future production facilities”, says Benoit Formesyn, Solar Foods Project Director of Factory 02.

Factory 02 is planned to be constructed in three phases, with the first phase targeted for operational start in 2028. Once completed, the facility will significantly expand Solar Foods’ production capacity, enabling them to meet growing customer demand and realize the full potential of Solein®.

This project is a testament to Blue Projects’ ability to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for complex industrial challenges.
